Vino&Food Project

It's been four years since Collisioni decided to enrich its art, literature and music festival program with a project dedicated to Italian enogastronomic culture. Collisioni Wine Project brings a number of great wine experts in Barolo during the festival days for a series of tastings, winery visits, tour, walk-around tastings, lunches and dinners with producers and Consortia making journalists, sommeliers and importers live Piedmontese and Italian wines, territory and culture. Collisioni Wine Projet, created and directed by wine expert and writer Ian D'Agata, aims at giving voice to the regionality, territoriality and richness of the great treasure being Italian wine&food patrimoine.

For the 2016 edition, Collisioni Wine Project welcomed more than 70 selected experts from 11 Countries around the world for more than 60 events: tastings, speeches, meeting with producers and winery visits.

Ian D'Agata is the Creative director of Collisioni's Wine&Food project. He is also the Senior Editor at VINOUS and director of Indigena Festival and its Indigena World Tour and founder and director of 3iC for Italian Wine&Food studies.
Ian is the winner of 2015 Louis Roederer International Wine Awards Book of the Year with his Native Wine Grapes of Italy, the first time an Italian wine writer has ever been so honoured, and is winner of 2017 Cuvée Aawrd of Excellence, a Canadian wine award. He lectures on Italian wines and wine culture at NYU Master’s Program in Food Sciences (US) Italy campus in Florence.

«I am really glad I joined forces with Collisioni for the development of a cultural project about wine culture that aims to become a pool of prestige and international appeal. Collisioni is an outstanding festival, that succeeds in gathering together important international artists such as Sting, Mark Knopfler and Nobel Prizes as Herta Muller or Vidia Naipaul as no other in Italy. Here, culture and art support Regional traditional food and wine all around Italy and abroad. In thinking about and building up the program – made possible by the collaboration of the many wine producers and Regional realities, who are long-run partners of the festival – I tried to respond to a double interest: on the one hand, the purpose was to bring to the festival some of the most important wine critics and journalists from all over the world, in order to develop a relationship between international experts and producers and products from all over Italy. On the other hand, I was willing to offer a panel of didactic tastings and meetings to a wider public. A series of dynamic and appealing events to meet the expectations of those who come to Collisioni every year to discover the finest wines and learn how to appreciate them as well››.

Born in San Donà di Piave (Venice) in 1982, Matteo Bernardi began working in restaurants at age thirteen, travelling between Jesolo, Venice, Milan, Lake Garda, Valtellina and Val Gardena with seasonal jobs, originally to pay for his schooling and later for his love of the restaurant world. After graduating high school in accounting, he began studying economics at the university level. However, he discovered a real passion for wine, reinventing himself at thirty. In 2013, Matteo received his A.I.S. third level sommelier diploma and began working with the Alajmo family, first at Ristorante Quadri (one Michelin star), located in St. Mark’s Square Venice, and later at Le Calandre (three Michelin stars) in Padua. Mariarosa was born in Monteroduni, a little village in Molise. Enthusiast about literature and music, with important experience in event management, but wine leads her passion.

Established in NYC in 2013, translated her wine knowledge at American Sommelier, where she has also become manager.

She's a certified Advanced Sommelier and has spent the past 12 years working in wine. In 2005, she launched an Italian restaurant/wine bar, Ottimista Enoteca-Café, in San Francisco, which she ran (along with its all-Italian wine program) for seven years before selling it in 2012 to combine her passion for Italian wine with a focus on sustainably-farmed, low-intervention producers. She started Rock Juice in 2015 to bring these kinds of natural wines to drinkers everywhere. Now she spends her days chasing down (drinking) honest and delicious wines from inspiring small producers in Italy, and around the world, for Rock Juice, while trying to keep the trains running for her family. She’s also a mom of two young boys, whose appearance in the world inspired her to think about the ingredients she was putting in her body, and theirs. And ultimately led her to natural wines, and the idea to make them more accessible. Because let’s face it – wine is one of life’s great pleasures, and even as we have become more health-conscious, we’re not giving that up. Melissa’s philosophy, and the driving force behind Rock Juice, is awareness - be smart about what you’re drinking, and stick to the good stuff, made by real people, not big corporations, without chemicals and other weird stuff. And most importantly, enjoy. Daily. Life is too short to live for the weekend.

Kezia Prajitna joined the Tannin Wine Bar team at the top of 2015. She landed in Kansas City after leaving New Zealand, where she first discovered her passion for terroir driven wines. Working with the wine list at Tannin only emboldened her love of wines with an undeniable sense of place. Barry Tunnell, Tannin’s wine director has spent years curating a list that honors the traditions of the great wines of the world, but also allows ample room to feature those of curious indigenous varietals and regionally obscure. Kezia’s dedication to the wine program and her contribution towards staff training at Tannin was a key factor in securing the restaurant’s spot on Wine Spectator’s covered list of America’s top 100 wine restaurants. The real trophy for Kezia, though, is the opportunity to host and cater to the heroes of the craft. Kezia’s love for wine is certainly the culprit to her developing relationships with winemaking’s all stars. Her deft technique in hospitality has emblematized the spirit of Tannin for greats like Jean-Pierre Charlot, Jean Bourdy, Eric Texier, Pietro Oddero, Marc Hochar and Francesca Vajra. “It’s one thing to shake the hands of your heroes, and it’s another to be the instrument that allows others to share in the excitement [in the context] of the special wines they produce.” she says, when asked about her role [at Tannin] “It charges my battery every day!” Kezia was invited to Collisioni by Ian D’Agata, whom she met through Levi Dalton on a recent trip to New York City.
